MEDLAB

Unit of Medical Technology

and Intelligent Information Systems

The Unit of Medical Technology and Intelligent Information Systems (https://medlab.cc.uoi.gr/) has approximately 70 researchers who focus their research on biomedical informatics, including:

  • Tick The development of multilayered computational models for simulating the function of organs, tissues, and medical devices (in-silico). The laboratory has developed expertise in the development of human digital twin models
  • Tick The development of machine learning and deep learning models based on non-uniform data for the diagnosis, early diagnosis, differential diagnosis, prediction, and treatment of diseases. This includes research in data sharing, data curation, data harmonization, and the development of systems/models from shared data using federated learning
  • Tick The development of new methods for processing medical and genetic data for personalized patient classification and the development of predictive models for risk assessment and disease progression, as well as the identification of biomarkers, including digital biomarkers
  • Tick The design and development of wearable devices which, along with the development of artificial intelligence models, are used for monitoring and treatment planning of patients, with an emphasis on chronic diseases. This includes lifestyle monitoring systems, environmental control, and the development of non-invasive biosensors
  • Tick The design and development of implantable medical devices along with the development of devices that support biodegradable materials and drugs
  • Tick The development of cloud-based platforms with emphasis on data security and personal data protection for the preprocessing, visualization, and analysis of big data. Some of these systems are used for the computational implementation of clinical studies
